Sustainability

We are small, but we make choices every day to ensure our business protects our planet and cares for our people. Sustainability and humanity are foundational to our business values.

Here's our 2026 Baseline. It might not look like much, but it's a place to start.

People

  • We provide competitive wages and a safe working environment.
  • After 12 months of continuous, full time employment we offer health and dental benefits.
  • We define full time employment as at least 32 hours/week. (Let's be honest, a 40-hour work week doesn't allow for a healthy balance between work and life.)
  • We prioritize quality, full-time local jobs and staff retention where possible, accommodating and growing with staff as our mutual needs evolve.

Waste

  • All our solid waste from brewing is diverted from the landfill and used by local beef farmers as feed.
  • We replaced our "strainers" in our brewery to capture more fine organics, reducing the load on the municipal wastewater stream (thanks to a CUA grant).
  • All the recyclables collected in our taproom are donated to a local entrepreneur.
  • We accept used plastic PakTech can toppers for reuse. Don't worry, they're sanitized!

Energy

  • We've had an audit from Efficiency NS, so know what needs to be done.
  • We aim to reduce our peak load and have implemented staggered opening procedures to achieve this.
  • We use passive heating and cooling where possible.

Water

  • We are conscientious of our water use in the brewing process, though have not taken any steps to measure at this point.

Community

  • We regularly donate our venue and our products to local fundraisers and community groups. At the moment, we do not track these in-kind donations.
  • We have a deeply discounted non-profit venue rental rate.
  • Owners and full time staff have been trained in Positive Space by the StFX Manager of Human Rights and Equity and 2SLGBTQIA+ Student Inclusion.
  • Our facility is fully accessible, with a front ramp and an accessible washroom.
  • Our washroom includes an infant change table, and a high chair and private space for nursing mothers is available upon request.

Governance

  • We are certified by WBE-Canada as a woman-owned company.
